Meg Ryan Heery is an active performer and teacher who has appeared as a soloist and with contemporary chamber ensembles, orchestras, and popular combos in San Francisco, Paris, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles.
A devoted and passionate teacher and performer for 20 years, Meg loves to introduce people of all ages and types of experience to the joy and transformative power of music making. Her customized workshops and lessons for individuals and groups focus on buulding musicianship, technique, and emotinal exprssion through improvisation.
Meg earned a master’s degree in flute performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a bachelor’s degree from The Hartt School. Her constant desire to improve and to broaden her musical palette has led her to classes with renowned concert flutists such as Emmanuel Pahud and Keith Underwood, shakuhachi master James Nyoraku Schlefer, and world and jazz musician Steve Gorn; she’s also studied jazz and Latin styles and performs regularly with popular and folk musicians in the New York area. Meg is a member of Music Teachers National Association, the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, Upper Midwest Flute Association, and the International Society for Improvised Music.
I teach all ages and levels. All lessons, regardless of age or level, integrate tone development, technique, repertoire, improvisation, ensembles, ear training, and music theory in a creative, engaging format tailored to the unique learning style and preferences of each student. If a student is very young, we'll meet first to find out whether he or she is physically ready for the instrument.

Informed, empathic guidance in vocal sounds, guided listening, and playing flutes and other simple traditional instruments for stress reduction, self expression, and meditation. You'll acquire skills and tools to bring inner calm and confidence to your everyday life.
Classes and private sessions on these fun, easy-to-play instruments are available for very young players preparing for traditional flute lessons and for adults seeking a simple and gratifying medium for relaxation, meditation, and self-expression through the flute.
