Máté Rácz is a Hungarian-born violinist. He started to play the violin at the age of 4 in Szeged. In 2001 he started his conservatoire tuition first in the highly prestigious Kodály School, Kecskemét, then at the Conservatoire of Győr with Professor Svikruha Marta. In 2007 he got a scholarship to start his undergraduate training at the Royal College of Music with Jan Repko. After a year he changed his professor and started work with Dona Lee Croft, with whom he is still studying. He gained the Bachelor Diploma in 2011, and got a place to continue his studies for a Master of Arts degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In 2010 he won the Szeged city Artist Scholarship and the Hungarian company, Szeviep supported him. In 2011 he won the Sir Charles Mackerras Scholarship in Orchestral Leadership to support him in his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and to gain knowledge of leading orchestras.
He took part and has been a prize-winner of several international and national competitions, such as the Lipitzer International violin competition in Gorizia, Kloster Schöntal International Violin Competition, Zaturecky Hungarian National Violin Competition, Kingston upon Thames Festival of the Performing Arts, Ealing Festival Concerto Competition and Bach Prize and Hatfield and District Music Festival.
Máté is the founder and leader of the Crystal String Quartet and the Arké Trio. He is also a member of London’s well known comedy string quartet the ZHL Strings and the Graffiti Classics. They are performing in concerts nearly every week all around the world in the best theatres and festivals.
He has performed in master classes with many established violinists including György Pauk, Eszter Perényi, Béla Katona, Peter Esswood, Barnabás Kelemen, György Somogyi, András Kis and Dénes Kovács. He has lead many youth and professional European orchestras such as RCM Symphony Orchestra, RCM Sinfonietta, Gyor, Kecskemet and Szeged Symphony Orchestras, Viennese Mozart Orchestra and RWCMD Chamber orchestra; under the batons of Ashkenazy, Salonen and Jurowsky, to mention just a few, performing in the UK (St David’s Hall, Dora Stoutzker Hall, and Cadogan Hall), China (Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong concert halls), Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Finland, Austria, Russia and Germany. Máté will soon start a placement scheme with the Welsh National Opera.
I teach violin from beginners to advanced level, grades 1-8, but also have 2 years of experience of teaching the jazz violin and improvisation on the instrument. I can also teach music theory, grades 1 - 8. I am enthusiastic, patient and can arrange to come to your house depending on the distance. I am teaching with one of the most well known teaching method in the world: with the Hungarian Kodaly Method. With this method the student able to reach a very high level after a few lessons.
I am also teaching jazz violin and improvisation, as I used to be a member in several jazz bands. I am recently a member of 2 jazz groups.
