I teach private lessons at a studio in Western Springs but would like to do more work locally. I will come to your home, saving you the extra time and cost in transportation, and also will digitally record samples of your work so that you have a portfolio of your accomplishments. I teach all major historical periods of music as well as blues.
Piano lessons begin as early as age 4. A child should be able to sit attentively for a 30 minute lesson. Emphasis on rhythm and note reading very early on, as well as attention to technique and musicianship. Students learn familiar folk songs and simple left hand bass patterns to accompany right hand melodies.
For the older beginning students, I teach visually mapping out the piano by letters, chords, and enharmonic spellings. Students may provide me a song they want to learn (any song as long it has a singable element to it) and I will 'water it down' to make it accessible. As we progress, students learn rhythmic and melodic sightreading.
Voice lessons begin at the age of 12 or 13. Voice lessons are for students who want to seriously study how to sing healthfully and musically. Lessons consist of folk, broadway, select pop songs, or movie themes. Advanced lessons consist of Italian Arias and other foreign language pieces, from a variety of music historical periods, to give the student a well-rounded education. Techniques learned include: breath control, diction, vowel placement and shaping, resonance, and ear training. Sight reading and ear training are taught at the beginning of the lesson. Songs are taught by rote until the student is able to sightread a song (usually too daunting a task for a beginner unless they have previous note reading skills from band/choir).
First trial lesson: $10 / 20 minutes
Its important to find a good teacher, someone who knows their craft and someone you can develop a good working relationship with. Let me meet with you and show you my teaching style, and together we can develop a focused, individualized curriculum designed to meet your musical aspirations. I will hold your lesson timeslot for the next 48 hours. If you want to continue lessons, I'll see you the following week. If you decide otherwise, I can offer the timeslot to a waiting student.
