My bio

To all Future Students,

Hello all, my name is Daniel Blum and I'm on Harmonious.ly as a Percussion/Drum, Composition/Arranging/Orchestration/Theory, and Music Production teacher. I recently moved up to the Bay Area to continue my education in the realm of music production but bring with me years of musical playing, education, and teaching experience.

Though I've been playing music my whole life (cello, trumpet, violin, french horn) percussion and drum set have been my primary focus since high school. I attended the California State University of Northridge and received my degree in Percussion Performance. While there I studied composition, arranging, music theory, jazz theory, and digital music production. During my attendance, I taught not only private lessons, but also at local high schools as a percussionist and as a substitute at CSUN for their music theory and applied percussion classes.

All through college I also worked as a freelance musician in Los Angeles, CA, playing with the Mancini Orchestra, the Orchestra of the South Bay, the Santa Barbara Symphony, the Burbank Philharmonic, the Music Theater of the West, and many more. After my graduation I worked as a drum set player for Azamara Cruises and on the completion of my contract, decided to move up to Berkeley.

Notes

-I teach all ages groups (starting at 5 years old) and all ability levels (beginner to very advanced).

-The first lesson is half price as I try to see if the student and I are a good match.

-No matter what the lesson is in (theory, composition, percussion), I first teach music appreciation, then music theory, then the applied lesson (percussion, drum set, etc.). It's my idea that the student must first love music, then appreciate music, then learn music. Not every students wants to become a professional, but every student wants to learn, so loving and appreciate music are paramount in my lessons.

-The only thing I ask of my students is to practice (a little bit every day) and to love music.
