My bio

Hi, I am a professional cellist in southeast London, having performed on four continents with orchestras including the BBC Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic. Before then I studied weekly for three years with William Pleeth, after achieving a B.Mus with distinction in cello performance from Indiana University School of Music.

I have coached cellists to LRAM and Performer's Certificate level (in every case gaining the highest possible level) and specialise in adults and in baroque performance practice (I spent a decade playing baroque and classical cello with orchestras including Sir John Eliot Gardiner's Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique and the Hanover Band.) However, kids are always welcome, as long as they really want to learn to play!--several of my junior pupils have carried away prizes in local festivals.

I teach ONLY from my own home, and only because I enjoy it, having no need of the money. Please contact me for a free lesson to see if we have the same aims in mind: if not, I can recommend a number of other cello teachers.

All best,

Alice McVeigh
