Polly's Flute Education Programs:

Teaching: Individual Lessons

Polly teaches flute lessons to students of all ages in her home in Maplewood, Minnesota. Her students have won auditions to play in the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestras, and also have won prizes in numerous regional competitions. Her high school students have gone on to study flute at the college level at music schools around the nation. Polly's adult students enjoy playing in community bands and orchestras, as well as local theater productions. The students participate in solo and ensemble recitals twice a year.

Summer Programs

Polly conducts two one-week summer programs, the Flute Intensive and Flute Fling. Each is designed for twelve participants. Auditors are welcome at the daily guest master classes. Each program ends with a concert of music prepared during the week, open to the public.

The Summer Flute Intensive is for advanced students of all ages. Participants play in small ensembles and flute choir. Also, each participant performs on one of the master classes with outstanding professional flutists from the region, including members of the Minnesota Orchestra and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, plus experts in Baroque flute and contemporary techniques. This is an extraordinary opportunity for flutists with well-developed skills to engage with other players at their level in a friendly, supportive way, and to learn from a variety of nationally respected artists. The Summer Flute Fling is designed for advanced beginner and intermediate flutists of all ages. Each participant plays in a trio or quartet that receives coaching, and everyone plays together in a flute choir. Parts of appropriate difficulty are selected for each participant. Each student also gets to play in a master class with some of the top flute teachers from the Twin Cities area. The Flute Fling fosters a friendly, fun, and supportive atmosphere for all.
