Dennis D. Deem II, baritone, is an active conductor and recitalist. He is currently a masters degree candidate and teaching assistant at the University of California, Santa Cruz where he studies privately with renowned conductor Maestra Nicole Paiement. Prior to his appointment at UCSC, Dennis taught piano and voice at the distinguished Bay Area Academy of Music in Pleasanton, CA.
He holds the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from West Virginia University where he was a member of the Opera Workshop Theater, University Choir, and was soloist for the Collegium Musicum, the university's early music ensemble. He studied orchestral conducting with the late Maestro Lawrence Christianson and voice with bass-baritone Peter Lightfoot.
Prior to attending WVU, Dennis was soloist at Church of the Assumption in Pittsburgh, PA and held membership in the professional choral group The Pittsburgh Camerata. In his home state of WV, he founded VOICES, a semi-professional chamber ensemble committed to the passionate singing of choral music as an agent of change. He is formerly Director of Choral Music at Christ U.M. Church in Marietta, OH and First U.M. Church in Parkersburg, WV.
